Those of you with a quality coffee machine at home will appreciate just how much better a freshly ground cup of coffee can taste compared with the dire instant stuff you may have once consumed, but is it worth going one step further and roasting greens at home yourself?
A bag of freshly roasted coffee beans from a coffee shop will generally cost you under £10 for
750g, but with a basic bag of green beans costing
upwards of £15 for a
2kg bag can you get better value for money, and more importantly better quality roasted coffee beans, by roasting your own at home?
If you took a conservative view that 2kg of green beans would produce
1kg of roasted beans then you can see straight away that your £15
2kg bag of green beans which seemed good value has transformed into
1kg of roasted beans compared with £10 of roasted beans from the coffee shop.
However, when roasting at home you are in ultimate charge of the roasting process so you get exactly the roast you want. Also, you may not know how long the roasted beans from the shop have been sitting on the shelf.
It's hard to get a fresher cup of coffee or espresso that one made from beans you roasted yourself minutes earlier!
