It seems you cannot pick up a Sunday paper at the moment, without reading articles about which celebrity has just bought a mansion in the Cotswolds or about the latest restaurant to be opened in the area.

Cirencester (known as The Capital of the Cotswolds) is a typical Cotswold market town. But what is it about the place that makes it so special?

In Roman times, Cirencester was the second largest settlement England, second only to London.
The town has come a long way since then of course, but the Roman influence is still evident.
How many other towns can boast a Roman Amphitheatre for instance? Or a museum (the world famous Corinium Museum) which is so heavily populated by Roman artifacts and history.
Cirencester is ideally placed for visitors who are touring the Cotswolds. It's location makes it an ideal base from which to visit Bibury, Burford, Bourton-the-Water, Cheltenham, Tetbury, Stow-on-the-Wold and other Cotswolds towns and villages.
And if you do choose to stay in Cirencester you will have a huge choice or bed and breakfast accommodation, as well as a decent number of hotels.
