In Roman times, Cirencester was the second largest settlement England, second only to London.
The town has come a long way since then of course, but the Roman influence is still evident.
How many other towns can boast a Roman Amphitheatre for instance? Or a museum (the world famous Corinium Museum) which is so heavily populated by Roman artifacts and history.
Cirencester is ideally placed for visitors who are touring the Cotswolds. It's location makes it an ideal base from which to visit Bibury, Burford, Bourton-the-Water, Cheltenham, Tetbury, Stow-on-the-Wold and other Cotswolds towns and villages.
And if you do choose to stay in Cirencester you will have a huge choice or bed and breakfast accommodation, as well as a decent number of hotels.
Established B&Bs in Cirencester include The Old Brewouse, The Old Bungalow, The Leauses and The Ivy House. The Fleece Hotel and the Corinium Hotel are amongst the h
otel accommodation offered in the town.
If you are a shopaholic, then the unique mix of small shops alongside more well-known retailers will keep you busy for hours. And if you need to take the weight off your feet and have a bit to eat then restaurants such as Harry Hare's and Tatyans would make a good choice; or why now drop into one of Cirencester's pubs or cafes instead?
A plentiful supply of parking near and in the town centre means you can leave you car while you walk around Cirencester on foot safe in the knowledge that the car is only a short walk away should you need to drop your shopping off to relieve arching arms.
So whether you are just a day visitor to Cirencester, or you are taking a longer trip to the area, then Cirencester would make the ideal base for your Cotswolds visit.
