If you are buying a new bed, you are going to wonder what size you need. It is a common question and is one that a lot of people answer wrong when they buy a new mattress, and then they end up regretting their decision for the next 10 or 15 years. If you are deciding what size mattress you need, you are probably sleeping in a double bed now. If that is the case, it may be a time to upgrade to a queen size bed. A queen size bed is going to be the most comfortable and is going to fit you and your partner comfortably.

If you think of all the things that you do in bed, it is probably going to be wise to have a bed big enough to hold everything and everybody. Maybe you let the kids climb into the bed and snuggle next to you for movie night or maybe you have a 60 pound dog that will only sleep at the foot of the bed. If that is the case, you are going to need a bit of extra room. Looking around your bedroom, you probably notice that you don't have a lot of space, and a king sized bed or California king sized bed are definitely not going to work.

You may be wondering how big a queen size bed actually is. Well, a standard size queen size bed is going to be 60 inches wide and 80 inches long. This is going to be 6 inches wider and 5 inches longer than the double bed that you have now. This means that you are going to be able to sleep comfortably and have enough room to spread out a bit more.

When purchasing a new mattress, you are going to want to really think about the bed size, because when buying a different size bed, you are also going to have to buy different sized blankets and sheets as well. If you already have a queen size, you know that the fitted sheets are going to fit the bad snuggly and are going to be 60" x 80", but the flat sheets are going to be even larger to allow you to tuck them in under the mattress.

If you are buying a queen size bed, you should remember to ask the salesman whether or not it is the standard size. A lot of times, mattresses will be made slightly larger than their standard size, which means that you might have trouble finding properly fitting sheets. Often mattresses end up being a bit larger or a bit deeper because of the foam and the padding that are added to make queen beds even more luxurious. Having sheets that fit well is not only going to make your queen size bed look good, but it is also going to keep your bed clean and protected. Getting a new bed is a big step, and when deciding between a queen bed, double bed and a king bed, you are going to find the queen sized bed is the most versatile and will fit into your bedroom the best.
