Discover Cambridgeshire's Hidden Archaelogical Treasures
Cambridgeshire County Council Senior Archaeologist Quinton Carroll will open a window on the past when he leads a guided tour of the council’s Archaeology Store

He will be at the store in Landbeach, on Saturday, October 6, to show local societies and members of the public around and to explain details of some of the thousands of artefacts the past which are kept and preserved for the future.

Over the past 20 years there has been numerous archaeological excavations and the majority of these ancient artefacts are at the Landbeach Store, where the remains of the past 10,000 years of Cambridgeshire now reside. The tour will give people a chance to see and learn more about the stone age axes, fine Roman pots or Saxon burial treasures.

Quinton Carroll, Head of the County Council’s Historic Environment Team, said: "All excavations create archives that have to be stored, and this is a great opportunity for local groups interested in Cambridgeshire’s archaeology to see what happens to all the finds.”

Anyone who wishes to join the tour should contact Quinton Carroll on (01223) 712335 or Rick Hoggett on (01223) 717571. The tours are free but places are limited.

The village of Landbeach has a rich heritage stretching back as far as the Iron Age, excavations have revealed important remains on County Council farm land to the east of the village. In addition, the remains of the medieval village are still visible at Worts Meadow pocket park.

The store is located at Worts Farm Barn, High Street, Landbeach.
