Speculation reaches fever pitch over who will be the new manager of Newcastle United.

New manager for Toon
Speculation about the managers hot seat at Newcastle is reaching fever pitch after the premature sacking of Big Sam Allardyce. The fact that they wanted Harry Redknapp was made all too public, and following his refusal of the job, whoever gets it will know they were not the first choice.

So who will take on this poisened challice that is the managers job at Newcastle United? Those who seem to be 'in the know' are suggesting that Blackburn manager Mark Hughes will be offered and accept the position. If he does, he is a brave man indeed.

The fans at Newcastle demand success. This is difficult to understand as they haven't won anything for over fifty years. Allardyce was doing alright with the side in a mid-table position, but that wasn't good enough for anyone. It seems that whoever the new man is, he will have to produce instant results.

Mark Hughes has done a wonderful job with Blackburn, but he probably realises he has taken the club as far as they can go. The potential at Newcastle, with it's great stadium, great fans, and some money behind it, is unlimited. It may just be that Hughes won't be able to resist the lure of this ultimate challenge.

The fans favourite for the job is the Toon legend Alan Shearer. He has no managerial experience but is a hero to the Toon army. I wonder if Shearer is worried that he might lose his legend status if he failed to produce the goods as a manager?

Whoever takes the job, they will be in a role that is massive. If they can win something with them, that person will be guaranteed hero status and the freedom of Newcastle for life. It's just the winning something that may prove to be a little difficult!
